I am fascinated by various random and unique marks that have been left around Silverstone, which are hugely significant and symbolic of the place, and to the people involved in their origin, but which are almost completely ignored. A reference again to my constant collection of things or moments that retain an ‘aura’ of the environment that spawned them. The work exhibited here is a small part of a continuously growing collection.
All the images shown have arisen from incidents during a race day, but none which resulted in a driver or anyone else being hurt or injured in any way (except possibly their bank balance!) During that moment, the high level of emotions that would have been experienced by all concerned, the fear, the excitement, the anger, the expectations, the disappointment, the challenge, the noise, the energy, the professional response – vanish forever, but for the marks left on the silent walls as a testament to what happened. These too will disappear, painted over and forgotten, transient images like the moment.
